The Complete Man Code to Choosing Your Favorite Sports Team {Asylum}

Oct 28th 2009 8:47AM Agree with all but Code 3...You cannot randomly choose some team to root for, even if you're a stupid kid. For example, in Texas you can root for Dallas or Houston, but not New Orleans. The only exemptions are:

(1) If you previously lived in another state. Your fandom follows you, say, from Pittsburgh to Austin. Expatriots from the Rust Belt that moved South for jobs carry their fandom. But to constitute residency, you must've had a drivers license or received mail in the state your favorite team plays in...(2) Your college affiliations follow you also. You can still root for Ricky Williams even though he's a Dolphin. (3) If your state doesn't have an NFL team, it's "fair game". But Code 4 still applies. You can't jump around to winning franchises on a whim. (5) Military Exemption: The men and women of the United States Armed Forces are exempt from all Codes and Rules of rooting.

But anyone else can't randomly choose an NFL team to cheer on.

What's the Deal With the Houston Texans? {Fanhouse NFL Blog}

Oct 11th 2008 2:39PM Steph!

Here's a "howdy" from the plains of West Texas.

Your Texans are indeed "snakebit" right now. I sure thought they had their first "W" last week. I like your defense and and Slaton could be a real find. It's early. The Titans are going to be exposed before long. The Texans were the best 8-8 team in football last year and the best team not to make the playoffs. That hasn't changed. Let's get 'um a win and go from there!

Tim the Cowboys Fan

Ps. Be glad you have Jacques Reeves and not Pacman Jones...LOL!

NFL Made Correct Decision to Re-Schedule Games Due to Hurricane Ike {Fanhouse NFL Blog}

Sep 14th 2008 7:24PM Stephanie!

So I'm driving back from the Hill Country to the plains of West Texas the other day, calling all of my friends from the gulf coast area to make sure they were getting the heck out of there and I thought about you. I'm not being a weirdo....the Texans home game came up in conversation and I was telling a friend of mine to check out your blog.

I think the Texans and the NFL have handled this the best way they could, considering the damage to the venue and devastation to the area. We've watched storm after storm come up through the gulf for decades and, even though they moved the game to Monday as a precaution, NOBODY expected the direct hit on Houston. It just never happens.

I've lived through a house fire and a tornado displacing me before. I feel for what everyone in the Galveston/Houston areas are going through, INCLUDING the players and their families. I'm a huge NFL fan and I just don't get people that can't put a game in its proper place. You're right. They deserve a punch in the face. Take care. tb

Houston Chronicle Columnist Richard Justice Unfairly Attacks Alex Gibbs...and Then Me? {Fanhouse NFL Blog}

Aug 30th 2008 11:10AM Stephanie,

You may/may not remember me but we had a few exchanges in the past about my beloved Cowboys and your "hatred" of them and the disdain you feel for their fans. Well, in the meantime you've become one of my favorite NFL bloggers. Here's why. You care. If you didn't love your Texans and display the exuberance that only a true fan can, your writing wouldn't be as interesting to me. I can get news and stats anywhere. Fans like the fans perspective. Having said that, I'm not putting you in a cheerleader uniform. You're an informed writer and you have access that most fans don't enjoy. You "paint the picture" for other fans, something traditional journalism fails miserably at for the most part in 2008.

I've read little of Richard Justice, but your story doesn't surprise me. Newspapers are going broke and they're getting what they pay for. The majority of the best columnists have long since moved to other mediums, where the money is better and the workload lighter than banging out a daily story. A one-newspaper town, (Houston and Dallas), gets one side of a story. If the Dallas Morning News writers have a bias against a coach or a certain players, it's obvious in their work. Justice finally gets to the root of it all when he says, "I don't like Alex Gibbs". If I'm a reader, from that point forward any opinion he shares about the coach is ignored because he writes with a personal bias. "Boiling bunnies" aside, this particular writer has much bigger problems if he can't professionally have discourse with a blogger that asks him a legitimate sports related question.

As to coaches, Jimmy Johnson yelled. The stories are legendary about Mount Jimmy's eruptions....on the practice field, in meeting rooms and especially in front of a very captive audience on an airplane after a loss, where he was screaming in the faces of his stars, (Aikman and Irvin), not just a backup guard. Tony Dungy doesn't have that in him. Both have been successful by NFL standards. Different players respond to different styles of coaching. In managing people, mostly men with huge egos, I know which ones need nurturing and a pat on the back, and which ones respond better to a good butt-chewing and a challenge. The same principles apply.

You were right with your original question. The rest is just the residual firestorm of another traditional writer threatened by "new journalism" and a member of the Good Old Boy network taking cheaps shots at you because you're a woman. The direction he took this in the blog and on-air was totally inappropriate, but you know that. I did LOL at your "muffins" comment though, thinking how funny it would be if you baked some up and sent them to Mr. Justice, but I've got a warped sense of humor.

Finally, keep up the good work. I realized a long time ago that I could never change your opinion of the post-Landry Cowboys. To paraphrase you, " I completely believe in the concept that you can disagree with someone without being disagreeable". Do me a huge favor and remember that the next time we're discussing that other Texas team, ok? You're a little hard on the fans (bandwagony?), especially the ones that have followed them since the 60's and sat through the last decade of disappointing seasons and playoff losses. When the Texans aren't playing Dallas, I'm pulling for them. Take Care.

Wade Phillips 2-and-Done in Dallas? {Fanhouse NFL Blog}

Jul 9th 2008 9:58AM Jean-Jacques Taylor is a moron and a hack. Ever since Roy Williams called him out for being a back-stabber and a puzzy in an open letter posted in the locker room, and the Cowboys didn't punish him, JJT has had nothing but negative b/s to write about the Cowboys. He may be right on this one, but if he is, it was pure dumb luck. If you throw enough poop on the wall, some of it's bound to stick.

Maybe Cowboys' Safety Roy Williams Would Have More Success in New England {Fanhouse NFL Blog}

Jun 8th 2008 9:03AM If someone offers a 2nd or 3rd for Roy right now, and we don't take it, someone should pay with their job. What ails Roy can't be fixed. He's lost his heart, his passion for the game. He should be a leader on that defense and at this point, he's not even a good "follower". Between Hamlin, Courtney Brown, Pat Watkins and Henry playing safety in Nickel and Dime packages, Roy's improbable "comeback" to the player he used to be is unnecessary drama on a potential Super Bowl team. Unfortunately, cutting/trading Roy is not likely in '08 because of thr cap implications.

Apparently, Pacman Jones Isn't Worth Much More Than a Seventh-Round Pick {Fanhouse NFL Blog}

Mar 27th 2008 2:24PM Troy Williamson was drafted 7th overall by the Vikings in 2005 and was just traded to the Jaguars for a sixth-round pick in this years' draft.

Adam Jones was drafted one spot in front of Williamson. If Dallas is going to do this, (and I still hold out hope that they won't), a 7th is about right. (Or a 7th rounder and a player at most.)

Harrington May Struggle to Find Work {Fanhouse NFL Blog}

Mar 6th 2008 9:23AM Dallas. He's better than Brad Johnson at this point and he'll play for next to nothing.

Tony Romo Named Fun Fearless Male of 2008, Demands a Punchline {Fanhouse NFL Blog}

Mar 4th 2008 10:45AM Well, I can't believe you made it 30 days and several columns without your anti-Cowboys bias rearing its' ugly head. It figures you would stoop to the level of TMZ to make your point...Which was...? Here's my point: Chester Pitts charged with felony evading of police. Jerome Mathis was arrested for choking his pregnant girlfriend. Fred Weary. Chester Pitts. The "hated" Cowboys, (and Patriots for that matter), haven't had a player arrested in years. Not a single name on the "Turd Watch".

What else? Oh yeah. Good luck with Jacques "Toast" Reeves! ROFLMFAO!!!!!!!
