Butcher Boy Burritos Recalled on Listeria Scare {Slashfood}

Sep 15th 2009 2:03PM I hate to pop your bubble but the current administration has little, if nothing, to do with it. The government.. OUR government.. has outright encouraged bad things to happen to us - for decades. It's nothing new. Just ask the kids who were filmed playing in radioactive fallout that had been told it was 'as safe as snow'.. oh wait.. you can't.

When you see what has happened in the past.. some days, the fact that they manage to keep burritos from killing us is utterly amazing.

Defying Gravity, we hardly knew ye {AOL TV}

Sep 15th 2009 1:25PM It could have had such bad numbers because a lot of people, such as myself, didn't even know it was on. Way to advertise, ABC.

Vitamin Water sued for misleading consumers {WalletPop}

Jan 22nd 2009 5:24PM True, but some people would not need to pop vitamins if they had a proper diet to begin with. I'm curious and it is nothing personal but I'm replying to you because I wanted to ask you a question. I am always surprised by people charging that a beverage with sugar is nothing but empty calories, almost regardless of what beverage it is, and suggest that people drink diet drinks or sugar-free drinks instead.. instead of mentioning say, unadulterated juice or something. Why is that? Downing vitamins with diet coke is not a good idea, so I'm curious.

On a more personal note, the suggestion is not an option for people like me. It's cool, though we are starting to get some limited options in other food sections these days than just the "garbage foods" department, I do know I'm not sad that I can't develop a terribly annoying gum-snapping habit.

Vitamin Water sued for misleading consumers {WalletPop}

Jan 22nd 2009 4:59PM If people are going to refer to this as a soft drink, then so are drinks like Gatorade and Powerade. Even including those types of drinks, Vitamin Water would still be the king of healthy in the land of soft drinks. If someone were deciding between a Coke and a Vitamin water as their 'unhealthy' beverage for an afternoon of walking/playing/biking/etc in the park, the Vitamin water would clearly be the better choice. Not even taking into account that colored cola is known to have a negative effect on the calcium in ones body and has no health benefits, other than being wet and sweet. It's terribly irresponsible and misleading to make the only comparison sugar content.

Sure, people may use this product irresponsibly, just like any other, but many don't. Some use it as a sports drink, or drink it because they have health conditions.. maybe some actually need the vitamins AND sugar. "Oh, the horror." Before people start hollering "no one needs sugar!!", maybe they should think for a moment about how that is completely untrue. Sugar is naturally occurring in a great variety of foods. Your body and brain require a certain amount of it to function properly. As for that, there are some that drink it because it has more benefits than plain water and varieties like the multi-vite, with a little protein, makes good for workout recovery.

I do wonder where people get the idea that sugar is so horrible for you? What's up with all the hate on sugar? I wonder how many people chug down slimFast, without ever thinking about how much sugar it has, in spite of the fact they make it very clear that the energy comes from carbs. What do they think those carbs are? I wonder how many people are scarfing down sandwiches teeming with sugar because they never thought to look at the label? Yes, they put things like HFCS and sugar in sandwich meats, and bread, and the list goes on. At least Coke isn't trying to hide what the content of such things is in its products.. like some.

Food Fraud! Watch out for 'wild salmon' and a few other fakes out there {WalletPop}

Jan 21st 2009 12:12AM The fish thing will be a big deal once someone gets nice and dead from their lies as opposed to shelling out out a few bucks more for an inferior or different product entirely. (Who wrote this?!? The people eating the 'false' fish aren't saving bucks by being misled. They're paying high and getting low.)

As for the syrup. How is it healthier that it's thinned out with water.. or sugar at that? (They need to read their source material.) Thinning it out with sugar and/or water is just going to make most people use more on their pancakes/waffles and such. How is that healthier? Not to mention how that changes the texture, flavor, composition and consistency. Things like that do matter in cooking. Especially, if you're baking with it. Hello, chemistry.

I agree with RE. The author of this information knows nothing about the subject they're writing on. Also, it seems clear that they didn't even read their own source material.

Should you take your money out of WaMu? {WalletPop}

Sep 27th 2008 7:21AM This kind of nonsense is precisely one of the many reasons why I've not had money in a bank for nearly a decade now. I see no reason to hand over money I actually have to work very hard to get to people who expect me to pay them for the privilege to use it unwisely. I can protect my money and make bad investments just fine by myself with no account fees, thank you very much.

Aug 29th 2008 3:53AM ha. men get punished for that more often or more severely? not in my experience. first, you have to get the police to bother to show up and then get them to take it seriously... he did that because he was in a bad mood, you know. surely, you must have done something to provoke him.

KFC's veggie sandwich isn't quite so meat-free {Slashfood}

Jul 25th 2008 12:03AM Plenty of vegetarians can find things to eat at KFC, depending on why they're vegetarian and how restrictive they are. I'm not going to fault KFC for trying. At least I would be able to eat a veggie burger that might have been cooked with the same pan/grill/tongs/fryer as beef or chicken. More than I can say for fries from almost anywhere - including fine dining. I am allergic to fish. Almost all fast food offers fish and that fish is fried.

Cell-phones as 'mom-avoidance' devices {ParentDish}

Jul 23rd 2008 1:50AM Interesting. I'm hardly a kid anymore at over 30 and it seems to me that text is the only way my mother talks to anybody in our family. I guess for us it's the other way around... we call, she texts. Maybe these kids will tell their parents more since they aren't actually talking to them?
