'Mortgage Prof': 5 Reasons Banks Would Rather Foreclose {AOL Real Estate}

Oct 19th 2011 7:09PM I understand why banks don't want to lower loan balances. What I don't understand is why they won't modify ARMs. Someone I know had a 5 year ARM at 4% interest. At the end of five years the bank jumped the interest rate to 12% (ridiculous today) and would not budge. This made the monthly payment much higher than the person could pay and the bank foreclosed. It seems that with "traditional" mortgage rates down in the range of what this ARM was the bank could have left it at 4 or 5% and had the borrower continue to pay.

Want to Retire by 65? Think Again! {AOL Jobs}

Oct 19th 2010 4:27PM SSI (Supplemental Security Income) is not social security. SSI is the federal welfare program that happens to be administered by the same agency that administers Social Security programs. Neither program makes payments to aliens illegally present in the U.S.

Crazy places people hide money {WalletPop}

Sep 10th 2010 11:41PM Hide cash! I have my money directly deposited in my bank! I use a rewards back credit card and pay the entire balance once a month.

Southwest Boots Thin Flier for Overweight Teen {AOL Travel News}

Jul 27th 2010 1:11PM As someone else said the key word in the story is "standby" - that means you only fly if there is room on the plane. The teen, evidently, had a regular ticket purchased in advance. I believe the airline accomodated this woman. Would she rather have been squeezed in as so often happens in these situations?

Social Security's electronic payment system criticized {WalletPop}

Jul 20th 2010 9:44PM Katherine, some who receive social security or SSI payments cannot open accounts. They have been banned by the banking industry because of a history of overdrafts or writing bad checks. While that may be their own fault, they still need to receive their payments.

The Controversy Over 'Busty' Barbie and Our Idolatry of Hookers {BV Black Spin}

May 26th 2010 10:51AM Is this Barbie inappropriate for young children? Of course, but for some reason everyone seems to think that sex must be everywhere. If women showed up in the real world dressed the way many of the lady cops and attorneys on TV are dressed, their real world bosses would ask them to button up, cover up or go home and change. Cleavage is not appropriate in the office any more than it is on a child's toy.

Hot Seat: Obama's Birth Certificate {Politics Daily}

Aug 16th 2009 4:40PM President Obama's birth certificate was made available for review by major media, it was posted on his web site and when people doubted its authenticity, the State of Hawaii issued a press release confirming the birth certificate and the information on it. What's the big deal? I didn't hear anyone demanding that Senator McCain release his birth certificate and he was born in Panama (military family at the time the canal zone was controlled by the U.S.)

By the way, jgall29839, there is no such word as irregardless. The word is regardless, meaning without regard or consideration of. It is also considered rude to type messages in all capital letters. It is like screaming at people. Then again, maybe you are one of these right-wing conspiracy theorists who resort to screaming and name calling when they have no facts to back up their points of view.

Calculating the costs and benefits of health care reform {Daily Finance}

Jul 23rd 2009 5:52PM While I am no great fan of Congress please don't state as fact things you are ignorant of. All members (both houses) of Congress pay social security tax, Cat. Even the older members elected before 1984 pay ss tax.

TV News Daily {Inside TV Blog}

May 19th 2009 10:31AM I'm really surprised at the cancellation of The Unusuals. It's one of only two shows in ABC's prime time line up that I can even stand to watch. I liked it. Broadcast TV seems determined to lower the content of most of it's broadcast schedule to target the uneducated couch potato with such stuff as so-called reality shows (which are about as unrealistic as you can get). Can't they see that shows with some real story or mystery do much better such as ER, the CSI (with the exception of Miami CSI which is just too bizarre and YELLOW) and Law and Order families of shows.

Leno announces Conan will be his last guest {AOL TV}

May 18th 2009 1:12PM Personally I find Conan O'Brien's humor to be too juvenile, but I am sure that a lot of people like that sort of thing. I think perhaps NBC is trying for a younger audience because the advertisers know that they buy more stuff than those of us who feel we have too much stuff already. I will follow Jay Leno to prime time and go to bed earlier! As for who the guests are, I usually turned it off once the first guest came on. I like Jay's monologues and features like the newspaper errors.
