Jan 22nd 2011 3:35AM This was posted three days ago. I'm surprised nobody else thought this question was that interesting. It comes down to a simple idea for me. Most of the cons up there have to do with a lack of self control, but the internet didn't do that to us. The internet can offer us more information, but it can't make us wiser. It can offer us with more foolishness to soak up, but it doesn't force us to drink. It gives us more opportunities to do good and bad, but it doesn't guide us towards either. It's a reflection of what we want and where we're willing to go. If we eventually figure out how to better secure intellectual property rights and better protect our identies online, I'm sure it has little potential to do widescale societal damage. Although, I know that the less time I spend online the better my day is, I think it's a good thing as long as we take personal responsibility in how we use our time so it's not just another tool to steer us towards idiocracy.
