Is John Travolta Leaving Scientology? {PopEater}
Sep 30th 2009 7:52AM Scientology by L.Ron Hubbard was a self help/philosophy book written bck in the 70's. I don't understand how it came to be taken as a "religion". I think people are followers of their philosophy but in no way can it be taken as a religion.
Octomom Takes Vow of Chastity, Gets Dropped by Agent {ParentDish}
Feb 18th 2009 1:45AM Bottom line, this woman has psychological issues and her children have to pay for it, which is the most unfair thing about this entire situation.
She is selfish and is not thinking of the future of her children. I do not like to see Child Protective Servcies intervene but in this case they may have to in order to save the lives of these children and give them the quality of life they deserve by placing then in adoptive families that advocate open adoption.
Avery Brooks: What Has He Been Up To? {BV Newswire}
Dec 31st 2008 9:50PM Mr. Brooks is one of the greatest actors of our time. I had the distinct and honored pleasure of seeing him perform live in the Oedipus Plays at the Herodeous Atticus theatre at the Acropolis in Athens Greece. He, along with the great Earl Hyman and a brilliant all African American cast reached amazing artistic heights. To witness two great cultures (Greek and African) meld at an ancient site was the most thrilling theatre experience I ever had. I am forever grateful to Mr. Brooks for his mastery, contribution, and support of the arts
Disneyland Jack Sparrows Scuttled by Female Flashers? {Asylum}
Dec 10th 2008 11:43PM Dear Dumb,Stupid, possibly toothless and living in a trailer in the woods by yourself and the townspeople probably hide their children from you when you walk into town:
1. Disney is a very gay friendly corporation and mnay of their executives, no matter where they are on the ladder, are gay.
2. Many of hte park and management employees are gay
3. Disney recognizes gay partnerships and provides health benefits to the employees partner
4. everyone is just a "little bit" gay - does that part of you come out at night when you get dressed up all purty.
5. I hope you have not pro-created, you ignoramus you turned the story around and deserves every insult hurled at you since you had no issue hurling insults at others.
Hope you find some peace at some point in your lifetime.
Diana Ross: Booed At Air Jamaica Jazz Festival {BV Newswire}
Jan 27th 2008 10:30PM I have the utmost respect for the Motown Sound and Ms.Ross's contribution to the music industry and the shaping of music culture. However, this is not the first time her demands caused an issue. In 80's I saw her at a venue in New York City - she played a 45 mintue set and lip synched the entire thing. I was disappointed in her lack of respect to the audience. I know for a fact that Tina Turner has gone on stage with a serious fever/flu, gave her all, danced and sang as her life depended on it, and took her rest AFTER the show - Ms. Turner is a diva in the best sense,but does not act it in the way we have come to define the word, which is the beauty of her. Ms. Ross, I suggest you watch "What's Love Got to Do With It" and take a hint from La Turner.
China Shut Down 44,000 Pornograpy Sites in 2007 {Switched}
Jan 27th 2008 10:53AM Actually, the "heightened" interest in pornography is the result of the Chinese law that if you give birth to more than one child, and it is a girl, you have to place the girl up for adoption (as they were leaving babies in the street to die prior to this). So, that law, if you will, as boys are growing into young men, a lack of girls to date and experience adolescence with all its pains and issues in an unhealthy way.
WHY BLACK MEN LOVE WHITE WOMEN {Blackvoices Main}
Jan 6th 2008 11:17AM I am a white woman who has dated men of every color. The love of my life is a black man, and I love him for his talent, sensitivity, intelligence and grace. We have a professional and personal relationship that is fruitful. We would have come together at some point in our lives because it was meant to be, he could have been asian, white, puerto rican, even a woman, but the universe sent him to me as he is black, bold, beautiful and brilliant and I am thankful. Stop making assumptions and just accept that if people are meant to be together, whether it is for the long haul or a short period of time, everything happens for a reason.
When adoption doesn't 'work out' {ParentDish}
Dec 28th 2007 8:50AM I know this was a tough decision, but at least she tried for a year. I worked for 8 years at a group home that readies children free for adoption to get used to live in a family. After I left, have stayed involved with these programs for over 10 years. I have seen success stories and stories where children were returned only after a few months for the most inane things. Sometimes I agree, the damage of the past is so intense it is hard to maintain the child in the home, but they don't have to give up on them. The parents can retain custody even if the child resides in a facility outside the home. It gives the child hope, hope that someone has an interest in them no many how many times they reject the adoptive parent. Sexual abuse, physical abuse, neglect and other issues make these children VERY hardened, but that does not mean there is not a little piece of them that is thankful. I suggest anyone who is interested in adopting make themselves aware of any and all adoption books out there as well as become well versed in the diagnosis "reactive attachment disorder". I have seen the sincere heartbreak that these children go through when they are "given back". Sometimes I can understand especially when I have witnesssed all the work the parents have gone through and they are tired, but if they stay with them, even if they don't live with them, it means more to the children than they will ever know. BUT when people return children to the system for small reasons because they believed they "would be fine once they get to my house" the parents are setting the child and themselves up for failure. Education and training and extended visits before the child moves in is the key. Older child adoption can be very rewarding, and I have seen many successes and many failures. It is time we tip the scales for more successes -even if the child is unable to reside with the parents at times, it is better than giving up. Luckily the author realized she could not handle this before the adoption was finalized. Good luck to all who do this and for those children who have been through this, never forget, that no matter what has happened YOU ARE SPECIAL and work on those strengths and prove those that gave up on you WRONG.
Amai Champagne Brownies {Luxist}
Dec 29th 2006 8:38AM There is no blah, blah, blah. If you must know, I just worked with people to donate thousands of dollars in food certificates, essentials, etc to families in the worst area of the bronx that live in various types of shelters. So, no, Sally, that won't shut me up or others as you can not assume what people do in their daily lives to give. Brownies are NOT a sin.
Amai Champagne Brownies {Luxist}
Dec 29th 2006 8:26AM There are many ways to do charitable things, getting angry over brownies is not one of them. I am a mentor to a young, gifted writer, I consult for social service agencies, and my company does arts education outreach and socially conscious theater. AND after a day of all that, I would go and treat myself or a hard working coworker or loyal friend to these brownies. It is dangerous to have judgemental tunnel vision, there are ways to give to others and ways to indulge yourself. Both things are important for a healthy life balance. I do my part for society and am very impressed with this new brownie company.
