Parents' Alcohol Consumption Could Contribute to Infant Deaths, Study Says {ParentDish}

Dec 18th 2010 7:08AM I don't drink, but I also didn't put my babies on their backs to sleep. Both of them had reflux issues that required medication. I was so afraid of them aspirating on their backs, that I would put them to sleep in a sleep positioner, on their side. As soon as they were old enough to be out of the sleep positioner (rolling over), they always ended up on their stomachs to sleep. Having a breathing monitor under the crib mattress helped me sleep at night.

Genetically Altered Salmon Swim Closer {Slashfood}

Sep 9th 2010 9:35AM Gee, I wonder why our children are obese and starting puberty younger and younger. They need to quit using hormones so freely - I believe the way our food is so over processed and genetically altered is the reason cancer related illnesses are running rampant in America!!!! I buy as much organic food as I can get my hands on for my family.

Parents, Wake Up -- 'Educational' Videos for Babies Don't Work {Politics Daily}

Mar 10th 2010 8:01AM I find this article interesting. My 6 year old daughter watched Baby Einstein almost every day as a baby, and she could name all the planets by sight at 2. She also knew all the sign language they taught, by heart. She is in first grade, and makes straight A's!
My 1 year old son isn't really interested in them, so I guess it depends on the kid.

Facebook Lactivists Take Protests to the Street Over Breastfeeding Pictures {Switched}

Jan 4th 2009 9:03PM I breastfed my daughter and I will be breastfeeding my son when he is born in 3 weeks. I DO NOT however agree with most of these photos. I never nursed in public without covering up - mainly because I understand why it offends some people. I also think it's obscene to show a child as old as some of these breastfeeding. Do what you want in private - but don't post it for all the world to see - YUCK!

If you're obese, no food for you! {Slashfood}

Feb 5th 2008 9:13PM Hey, I have an even better idea! Maybe the government should start banning companies from making such unhealthy, overprocessed food, which are cheaper and more convenient. And get rid of fast food while there at it!

Don't Feel the Burn {oldstylelist}

Jul 11th 2007 12:38PM I got a pretty bad sunburn about a month ago. I had read about vinegar, and when I couldn't get to sleep the first night, I decided to try it. They say apple cider vinegar is best, but I only had white vinegar. I keep mine in the fridge. I soaked a paper towel with it and sat with it on my shoulders for about 15 minutes. I took it off, and even though I smelled like an Easter egg, I slept like a baby the rest of the night!

the best part is that I went to a private school, and we weren't supposed to listen to rock music!

The Do's and Don'ts of Do-It-Yourself Dye Jobs {oldstylelist}

Feb 16th 2007 2:07PM I have been a stylist for 17 years. I just left a very nice salon to be a stay at home mom. We charged $35.00 for a single process color. Every stylist in that shop has been doing hair for 10+ years and every one of them has done my hair. There are good stylist out there who don't charge an arm and a leg to do great work. I also had clients who colored their hair at home. Not everyone can afford to have their hair professionally colored. I have to agree that it is very annoying when someone comes in expecting us to fix their botched home jobs, and think they can walk out the door with the perfect color, that day. Haircolor is a chemical process, and the hair can only take so much at one time. I would advise first time home color clients to stay as close to their natural color as possible, unless you understand the color wheel and the way different base colors interact with your own.
