Hillary Clinton Rebukes Israel for Settlements Surprise During Biden Visit {Politics Daily}

Mar 13th 2010 10:44PM Being a Jew, I'm not shocked but surprised by the anti-Semitic tone and characterizations in these comments. The critical, central point here, is not addressed in the bulk of these responses: this new settlement building is a policy approved by bureaucrats for political and national reasons. When sharing one's opinions in an open forum the topic should be analyzed and opinions rendered without conflating personal prejudices and ethnic antipathies. These do not enlarge the conversation, they detract and distract from it and turn it into sidebars. Yes, Israel has reneged on its promise to halt all new settlement construction. Let's discuss this logically and factually. Points of view are welcome but all readers deserve respect. Intolerance should be restrained and reserved for private debate.

Suraya Pakzad and the Long, Tough Fight for Afghan Women {Politics Daily}

Mar 12th 2010 10:31PM "In 2004, there were no women in the media," Pakzad said. "Now there's a bunch of [female newscasters]. They're putting on make-up. They're wearing dresses. They're not under the burka anymore." In 2005, Shaimia Rezayee, was dismissed as host of an MTV-style show on Kabul's Tolo TV. The country's council of Islamic scholars had threatened the station for "opposing Islan and national values." A week later, Shaimia was shot in the head by her two brothers. Ms Paksad's mission is an heroic undertaking. 3 million widows, unable to eke out a living, are forced to sell their daughters into marriage and/or turn to prostitution as their only means of survival.In Herat, there were 34 rapes of underaged children reported, one victim was 3y.o. Self immolation and honor killings, as Secretary Clinton said emphatically, "is not culture. It's not custom. It's criminal."

Crazy but True: Meryl Streep Hasn't Won an Oscar in 26 Years. Why Not? {Inside Movies Blog}

Mar 6th 2010 2:01PM Rarely can one read comments on AOL without encountering so many off-topic and off-target posts. This one is about entertainment. It's not meant to be a forum for spouting personal or political antipathies, biases and, worst, racism. There are plenty of other places on the www where destructive criticism is welcome. We're talking movies, actors and awards here, people! State your case-be subjective-but limit your opinions to the discussion.

Nicaragua's Abortion Ban Is Inhumane and Backward {Politics Daily}

Feb 26th 2010 5:21PM This case is a paradox. Given the fact that the unfortunate Amalia's prognosis, from a medical standpoint, is not a positive one, the baby will die along with its mother with or without treatment.

I Don't Want to Fly the Uninspected Skies {Politics Daily}

Feb 26th 2010 5:14PM I mean this is equivalent to owning a Ferrari and driving it into the ground! Planes costs lotsa money. Therefore wouldn't it seem natural and normal to protect your investment with regular maintenance? And why aren't the crews employed to service the aircraft coming forward to inform the public of their employers egregious dereliction? This indicates that this is both a top-down and bottom-up problem. As for those elevator maintenance signs, I see them but I never read them!

Tony Perkins of Family Research Council Bumped From Prayer Lunch {Politics Daily}

Feb 26th 2010 4:43PM It's obvious that Perkins fails to understand the irony of his statement. Namely, that he believes his "dis-invitation" to participate in the national prayer convocation makes him a victim of a McCarthyite era "blacklist" and "witch hunt." Oh, and yes, he is being punished for his advocacy of DADT. As a self-appointed inquisitor in opposition to gays in the military, blacklisting and witch hunting is exactly what Perkins proposes for gays in the military. Hmm, how's it feel, Tony, when the shoe's on the other foot?!

Young Adults Doing Religion on Their Own? Blame It on Politics {Politics Daily}

Feb 26th 2010 4:34PM Well, I don't think it's "alarming" at all that 30-40% of millennials have no religion. I would think it alarming if 30-40% did have one! Hopefully, education, combined with logic and common sense, has beat out religion's insistence on blind faith and unquestioning adherence to it. Of course, before banging the drum for reason, there's bound to be another poll reporting a reversal extolling the next generation's return to established religion! That's the law of nature - the pendulum swings back and forth.

In Line to See Jenny Sanford: Wronged Wives, Straying Hubby {Politics Daily}

Feb 14th 2010 5:24PM Ok, let's get this straight. Jenny states Mark scratched out "faithful" in the marriage vows. She says she "admired" him for (t)his "honesty." Then she wants us to believe she made a "leap of faith" in marrying him. How can anyone make a "leap of faith" to commit to a future partner who "honestly" is not committed to being faithful?! I rest my case. Ms Sanford should rest hers, too.

Between the Lines: Blackwater Whistleblowers' List of Particulars {Politics Daily}

Feb 14th 2010 5:09PM The ominous sounding name "Black"water certainly conveyed the company's Darth Vaderish mission statement. The company's 2.0 name conversion to "Xe" conveys the image that it is now the "luXury Edition" of the same old Blackwater model.

Can Palin Save McCain's Political Life? Should She? {Politics Daily}

Feb 4th 2010 3:30PM McCain or Hayworth? Isn't that like saying six of one, half a dozen of the other? Palin, however, is a zero sum.
