There is absolutely no solid evidence that this is the case ---- it is an assumption by an unholy alliance between the Religious Right Wingnuts and Psychobabbly Left Wingnuts to enforce their control over human sexuality, which both the extreme right and the extreme left hate with a passion...except when they're doing it. Many of the most valuable relationships in history have come from an older and more powerful mentor entering into an intimate and sexual relationship with a protege' and then the protege' taking over the "mantle" of the mentor. It is just psychobabbly propaganda that this has EVER damaged anyone SOLELY because of the power differential. Therapists marry their patients all the time, although there is a move to make this illegal. Teachers marrying their students is a proverb. Ministers marry within their congregations. This "boundary" garbage is part and parcel of the desire of extremists on both ends of the political spectrum to control others. If someone is over a reasonable age of consent what they do with someone else who is over the age of consent is none of anyone's business but theirs. This "person of trust" garbage is simply a ruse to extend control of people's genital decisions, closing in more and more on freedom. Really, both the Church and the Social Services community MUST be taught to keep their obnoxious little noses OUT of people's crotches. It's bad enough when my dog sticks his nose there....but the government or a minister...eeeew. And, no, I've NEVER "crossed that line," but really think we should get rid of the line and the governmental interference.

Jul 11th 2008 11:38PM The perception of increased teen violence is due to the "zero tolerance" policies of our police-state, draconian government that believes "cracking down" is the way to solve any problem. Things that we did as kids (I'm in my 50's) that got a lecture or a even a laugh now get a jail sentence or at least a record. So much of normal behavior is being criminalized in Amerika that almost everyone in this nation breaks some law a few times a week without knowing it. This is so they can pick you up any time you get out of line and they feel like they want to shut you up or stop you or just scare some people of any dissent. Our Founding Fathers are rolling in their graves. It is things like the FISA Act and the Patriot Act that our Founding Fathers risked everything for. It is the very freedoms that Clinton and Bush have destroyed that are the freedoms my dad fought WWII for and my big brother fought for in VietNam. What has happened under the past few administrations is disgusting. That there are so-called "Americans" who support it is even MORE disgusting.

If we began to boycott these lousy airlines en masse this ridiculous TSA Nazi crap...talking about putting stun bracelets on passengers, confiscating hard drives and laptops, stripping people, etc....and the rude, incompetent flight staff, and the 2 inch seats and all the other absurd stuff these lousy companies are pulling would come to a screeching halt in a hurry. They only understand their wallets, so let's hit them in their wallets by refusing to fly. Tell your employer that you won't fly and suggest teleconferencing, webinars, ANYTHING but getting on an airplane. I WILL NOT fly unless absolutely necessary. And I purely despise the Gestapo tactics of the airlines and the TSA.

I've had women I've dated twice or three times and then not wanted to go out with again (I always, BTW, called and let them know...didn't just not call) show up at my house in the middle of the night, destroy property and so on. I am now happily married...and feel very, very sorry for those dealing with these crazies.

As for DD being a "Christian Apologist," the idiot has absolutely NO knowledge of Christian history nor historical Christian theology. His "apologetics" are sophomoric and long both answered and outmoded. As for being an "academic," that is laughable. The "man" has absolutely NO respect for academic etiquette, free inquiry, academic freedom, not the pursuit of knowledge. His mide is made up ---- don't annoy DD with the facts. BTW, I am an Eastern Orthodox Christian priest. When I implored DD to either get some credentials and knowledge of Christianity or stop spouting off his mouth, he wrote me a venom-filled response with his usual name calling, ad homnem attacks and screaming polemic. I think Dawkins has hit it on the head....except that, as evil as Hitler was, the guy had some brains....which DD apparently does not.

Jul 6th 2008 3:49AM Ada, you're way off on this one. I used to work in the ER. Throughout the summer people would come in burned, maimed, blinded, etc. Fireworks are EXPLOSIVES, not "innocent fun." Fireworks and over-consumption of cheap alcohol often go together, often with disastrous consequences. Now, that would be fine if the idiots just blew THEMSELVES up, but they damage property and lives of others with their explosives. And it ISN'T 'just one day," it is the WHOLE SUMMER. Yes, Colorado has banned fireworks, but a short drive to Wyoming will wind up getting you all the explosives you want. And the police do NOTHING...absolutely NOTHING. Even sparklers can cause severe burns down to the bone. If it was just adult idiots and THEIR offspring...fine...evolution in action. But it isn't. I have no problems with anyone doing stupid things to themselves, but when THEIR stupidity interferes with MY life....well, that should be stopped. Freedom isn't freedom to do whatever you want. It is freedom for people to live together without being interfered with by anyone...government or another person... and if they are, then it is a legitimate function of government and others to stop them so **I** can also live in peace.
