Apr 12th 2010 6:59PM This is a manufactured "controversy." How many parents are aware of the language content of an as yet unreleased film? I'm betting not many. As was the case with "Superbad," "300," and a ton of other films not intended for children, a whole slew of kids will pack theaters "Kick Ass' " opening weekend. Of this I have doubt. Frankly, this kid isn't a big enough star yet to create a controversy. If Miley Cyrus or a younger Dakota Fanning had done this, a media driven controversy would likely have sprung up, but kids have been using language considered vulgar in films for a few decades now and it goes mostly ignored. A young Natalie Portman dropped a slew of f-words in "The Professional" and raised little ire, because she wasn't NATALIE PORTMAN yet. Just compare that to all the grief that Macauly Culkin's parents got for his single (memorable) use of the f-word in "The Good Son."

Feb 18th 2010 2:27PM The idea that he owes THE PUBLIC an apology for cheating on his wife is ludicrous. The guy plays sports. It's not as if he was touring the country promoting abstinence and monogamy while cheating on his wife. He was touring the country playing golf. Our culture has truly fallen into folly if we believe that a talent for playing golf somehow transforms a person into a moral icon. If he began coming to tournaments drunk, or throwing vulgarity laced tantrums after losing, he would owe an apology to his fans. His private philandering, however, has NOTHING to do with the public.

Feb 12th 2010 12:26AM Did you see the photo? In what universe can it be said to "knock" Jesus? The crucifixion of Jesus Christ has been a staple of art and culture for centuries. As a result, paintings and photos which nod to this iconic image while being unorthodox in their intepretation of it are to be expected. While some such depictions are indeed intended to mock the figure of Jesus or criticize organized religion, I see no indication at all in Lohan's photo that, that was the goal. For his part, Donohue is offended because to be offended is his perpetual state. If "Jesus Sucks" had been written on Lohan's gown then you, and he, would have a strong argument. With the way the photo actually looks though? No, I just don't see anything to complain about.

Feb 12th 2010 12:11AM Let us be very, VERY clear here: Bill Donohue IS NOT, in any way, shape, or form, an offical representative of the Catholc Church. He is not an ordained minister of the Church. He is not a spokesperson for a diocese, for the Bishops Conference, or for any individual bishop. He is not an editor of a diocesan newspaper, or even of his parish bulletin. Again: Bill Donohue DOES NOT represent the Church in any offical capacity. Were it not for the secular news media's steadfast dedication to promoting manufactured "controversies", the Catholic League and the perpetually petty Bill Donohue would go mostly unheard of by the average, practicing Catholic. The League is virtually ignored by the Church press, unlike serious organizations of lay Catholics that carry real weight within the Church (the Knights of Columbus for example). At any rate, Donohue's constant, angry whining from his corner in the fringe of the Church is not somehow indicative of the general feeling of Catholics or Christians in America. To pretend that Christians in general are angry about this photograph because Donohue is (as he is always), is laughable.

Sep 5th 2009 4:46PM "He wants to be like Hitler on his sets," She's saying that he's a strong, oppressive personality on set (nothing new to hear, Bruce Willis has also been outspoken on this topic) and the polar opposite off set. It's not much of a comparison to Hitler (she's saying he's a dictatorial director), nor was the whole comment as excessively hostile as Ms. Bartyzel stupidly suggests. Ms. Bartyzel's wasting her time trying to make a big controversy out of a few critical comments. Rhode Island is laying off a 1,000 government employees. The day when the recession finally hits celebrity gossip, the lowest of all professions, will be a great day indeed.
